Water Treatment & Softeners in Newburgh & the Hudson Valley
Hard water, orange stains, rotten-egg smell, or blue-green staining from acidic well water? We test first, then size a softener or filter to your water and your household — quoted in writing.
Water Treatment in Newburgh, NY — the quick answer
Parker Plumbing installs and services water treatment equipment for homes on wells and city water across the Hudson Valley — Newburgh, Beacon, Port Jervis, Cornwall-on-Hudson, Walden, and the surrounding towns. We test the water first — hardness, iron, pH, and total dissolved solids on site, a lab for anything that needs one — and then size the equipment to the household: water softeners sized by people, daily use, and grains of hardness; air-injection and greensand filters for iron, manganese, and the rotten-egg sulfur smell; calcite acid neutralizers for low-pH water that stains blue-green and pinholes copper; carbon and sediment filtration; and shock chlorination for wells. We also service and re-bed existing softeners and filters that were never maintained. Every job is quoted in writing before work starts. Call (845) 244-0159 or use the contact form for a realistic ETA.

How Much Does Water Treatment Service Cost?
Treatment costs depend on what the water test shows and how many pieces of equipment it takes — a softener alone is a different job from a softener plus an iron filter plus a neutralizer. We test first, explain what each piece does, and quote the whole system in writing before any work starts.

Water Treatment FAQs
Do I need a water softener?
If you see white scale on fixtures, spots on glassware, soap that won't lather, or a water heater that rumbles with sediment, your water is probably hard. Hardness is measured in grains per gallon; we test it on site and tell you the number before recommending anything.
How do you size a water softener?
By your household, not a shelf label. People in the home times daily water use gives gallons per day; times the grains of hardness gives grains to remove per day; a softener is sized to regenerate about once a week on that load. A correctly sized unit uses far less salt than an undersized one running on heavy salt doses.
Why does my well water smell like rotten eggs?
That's hydrogen sulfide gas, common in Hudson Valley wells. Shock chlorination can knock it back for a while; the lasting fix is usually an air-injection or greensand oxidizing filter that strips the gas and the iron that often comes with it. If only the hot water smells, the water heater's anode rod can be the culprit — we check that first.
What causes the orange stains in my tubs and toilets?
Dissolved iron (and often manganese) in the well water. Once it hits air it oxidizes and stains. An oxidizing iron filter removes it before it reaches the fixtures; a softener alone can handle small amounts but clogs on heavy iron.
My copper pipes have blue-green stains and pinhole leaks. Why?
Acidic (low-pH) water slowly eats copper. A calcite acid neutralizer raises the pH as the water passes through it, which protects the piping and the water heater. We test pH on site; it's one of the first numbers we look at on a well.
Do you test water?
Yes. Hardness, iron, pH, and total dissolved solids are tested on site at the visit. For bacteria or anything a lab should confirm, we pull a sample and send it out.
How often does a softener or filter need service?
Softeners need salt kept up and a check about once a year; backwashing filters need their media inspected and eventually replaced. Systems that have never been serviced are the ones we're usually called to replace — a yearly look is far cheaper.
Do you install treatment on city water too?
Yes. Municipal water in parts of the Hudson Valley is hard enough that a softener and a carbon filter make a noticeable difference. We test it the same way.
We're on a slow well too — can you handle both?
Yes. Storage tank systems for low-yield wells are on our Well Water Storage page, and on many jobs the storage and the treatment go in as one planned system.
